Overview
Repurposing two historic buildings into a contemporary hotel and event venue.
The Kimpton Hotel Fontenot recently opened a major expansion to the hotel that adds over 12,000 SF of meeting and event space and 33 new guestrooms and suites to the upscale hotel. Kimpton acquired the two historic buildings next door to their flagship property on the high profile corner of Poydras and Tchoupitoulas Streets, which was also renovated by RNGD. The buildings were originally designed and built in 1844 by New Orleans architect James Gallier.
This meticulous renovation includes guest rooms and suites, several event spaces, boardroom, outdoor terrace, and restaurant. RNGD refurbished and utilized many of the historic building’s elements such as brick walls and ceiling timbers.
The old is new again.
King is a French style brasserie located on the first floor.
The second floor is host to the largest of the new event areas, the Canray Ballroom. Named after the musician that inspired the hotel’s name, Canray Fontenot, the 5,506 SF space can host up to 550 people.
The Evangeline Ballroom is 554 SF space that features a custom boardroom table made from the building’s reclaimed timber planks, an architectural fabrication of RNGD’s talented team. The RNGD team also designed and fabricated the stairs connecting the first and second floor.
The new outdoor terrace overlooks Tchoupitoulas Street and can accommodate up to 265 people.
Joining the second floor ballrooms and terrace together is a 2,158 SF pre-function area.
The Lala ballroom, located on the third floor, provides an additional 1,017 SF of space for up to 100 guests, as well as a pre-function area of 779 SF.
