Overview
Bringing a new sophistication to Poydras and Tchoup.
The former Staybridge Suites at the corner of Poydras Street and Tchoupitoulas was slated for a hotel flag conversion and needed an extensive renovation and remodel to transform it into the Kimpton Hotel Fontenot. Because of our extensive experience in hospitality work, JMI Reality, LLC engaged RNGD as the Design-Build contractor to lead the project.
The initial conversion work included the buildout of a parking garage, meeting rooms, dining, prefunction, and back of house support areas as well as circulation, for an existing 4-story structure. On the first floor, RNGD replaced and upgraded the existing lobby with a new registration area, improved public circulation, and more functional office areas. The team also converted existing meeting rooms and back of house areas into additional guestrooms and a fitness center. On the upper floors, guestrooms on levels 3 through 18 were renovated and two-bedroom units on levels 2 through 17 were divided into smaller units. Two restaurants, the swanky Peacock Room Restaurant and Gospel Coffee & Boozy Treats, attract both hotel guests and outside customers to their specialty offerings. Completed in 2022, this 232,000-square-foot hotel was designed by Delawie Architects.

Neighboring the high-rise tower, a more recent project has included a full renovation of the historic building next door originally built in 1844. This latest addition to the Kimpton Hotel New Orleans includes 33 new guestrooms and suites, more than 12,000 square-feet of meeting rooms and events space, and a new upscale restaurant. The new restaurant, King, is located on the first floor and offers outdoor patio dining. Historic elements such as the original brick walls, ceiling timbers, wide plank white oak wood, and reclaimed timber planks were meticulously refurbished and are featured throughout the building. The largest event space, the aptly named the 5,500 square-foot Canray Fontenot Ballroom, is named after the hotel’s namesake, musician Canray Fontenot.
